First Book Club Meeting Under Our Belts

Our first meeting of the Shelfcare Book Club of ETX led by Kasey Habecker was last Wednesday and we're off to a good start, I think. Eleven participants showed up at our meeting spot and introductions were made. Though we did discuss the book, most of the time was getting to know each other.
The first book was a random selection by Emily Henry - Book Lovers. Most enjoyed the book, though some were still reading or didn't finish due to it not suiting them. I'll admit that the book would not have been my choice because I read sci-fi and action thrillers plus the occasional business book, but I like challenges. I'll admit that I enjoyed it.
What really pulled me into this story was the dynamic between the two main characters. Were they going to get together, were they not compatible? Is he a red herring? Why is his breath ALWAYS minty? He drinks coffee for Pete's sake! The dialogue and back and forth was hilarious and really kept me interested.
Was there romance? Yeah, I mean it's one of those types of stories. Was I interested? Let me put it to you this way. I don't like detailed "romantic interludes." I would be fine if they just went into the bedroom, shut the door, and next scene starts the next morning. So, I warily read the two scenes that were leading somewhere but got interrupted. Shoo! Okay, nothing happened. I dodged a bullet. Thankfully the author gave enough warning and let the main event happen in it's own chapter. You know what? I skipped that chapter and moved on. And guess what? I didn't miss a thing! How steamy does it get? Couldn't tell you, didn't read it.
If you are into romance novels, I think that you will enjoy this one. Guys, if she asks if you would read it with her, I don't think it will kill you. Take a shot, you might like it.
The book club's next selection is The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. No, we aren't doing a theme, it just happened that way.
I placed orders for book club members and a few for the shelves, but those for the shelves are already spoken for, so if you are interested in a copy, let me know and I'll place a special order.
